In May 2019, while developing the website for Flores de Guatemala, I also produced original photography for the project. The web work naturally expanded into several photo sessions so the business could present its own floral arrangements rather than rely on generic stock imagery.
This session offered an unusual chance to work with tulips, which are not flowers I often encounter locally, alongside roses, lilies, sunflowers, and birds of paradise. Floral photography rewards careful observation. Small changes in camera position can reveal the layered geometry of a rose, separate overlapping tulip petals, or give a complex arrangement enough visual structure to remain readable.
The collection moves between close studies and complete arrangements. Some photographs concentrate on a single form, including the spiral center of a pink rose and the distinctive silhouette of a bird of paradise. Others document the florist’s broader craft through combinations of flowers, foliage, containers, and decorative structures.
Color became part of both the photographic and digital direction. Vivid magenta and yellow flowers needed to feel energetic without losing the softer textures and greens around them. Producing the website and its imagery together helped create a more coherent visual presence across the project.
These photographs retain the original client watermark. Revisiting the session reflects what I enjoy most about combining development and photography: building the platform, creating the visual material it needs, and finding a clear composition within a scene full of detail.
